Before MFI Works:
Dave S. is a mechanic who ran from the IRS for 20 years after getting a significant tax bill. When he got engaged, he didn’t want to put this burden on his wife, so he decided to face the IRS. He came to MFI Works for help with his tax problems.
His Tax Problem:
In the late 90s, he was given a tax bill by the IRS for $50,000. He was unable to pay it, so he shut down all of his bank accounts, went off the grid, and didn’t pay taxes for 20 years. Dave was in a panic. He owed $50,000 20 years ago; he couldn’t imagine how much he owed at that point. When he met with us, the first thing he asked was, “How much do I owe?”
MFI Works Solution:
Dave gave us a power of attorney, allowing us to call the IRS on his behalf. When we called them they told us that Dave’s account was not active and he did not owe them anything. The statue of limitation for collection has passed. The IRS had 10 years to collect his taxes, and once the 10 years has passed, Dave didn’t owe them anything. MFI Works called Dave and answered his question, “You owe nothing!” 20 years of fear fell off his voice during the call. A couple of weeks later Dave called and informed us he was opening a bank account. :-)
